Although sizeable and well engaged Slash was falling short to Copa 90, Joe, Football Daily and a list of other premier league focused publishers… so I repositioned the channel to align with the rapidly growing creator and grassroots football vertical.
We tapped into the culture by launching two, season long, Sunday league doc series with KSI’s team Eltham Town and the infamous east London ballers, Baiteze Squad.
We also built a small football pitch in our studio, where we invited football creators down daily to create real time football content faster and better than our competitors. Live broadcasts, challenges, talk shows, lie detector tests, watch parties and actual competitive street, 5 a side and 11 man football.
Slash Football quickly became the home for UK grassroots football and secured brand deals with Marriott, Puma and Sega Football Manager.
PROPER BALLERS
4,000 kids are let go from professional clubs in the UK every year and in many cases they return to their peer groups feeling like they have let themselves down and fallen short of the dream. Societal pressures and a lack of regular education puts these kids at risk with an alarming rate looking to crime and gangs to fill the void.
Baiteze Squad was a new team coming from East London, Canning Town comprised of ex academy dropouts determined to make something of themselves. Society had forggoten about them but their idea was to come together and see if they could get further as a team then they did in the academies. Unlike any others in the football creator space….Baiteze were ballers. And they won everything.
Ballinout was the doc series that followed the journey of a bunch of kids from a tough neighborhood who pulled together to change their story. From being dropped out of academies to winning the tango league, playing with Real Madrid and securing sponsorship with Puma and now New Balance. Their motto “Baiteze to the world and back”
Baiteze Squad is now the most talked about football influencers in the game. Their ability to take football into the grime and fashion space has brought them international audience and brand integration.
A NOT SO CLASSIC SUNDAY LEAGUE SERIES
Eltham Town FC had a couple comedy gold coaches and a handful of gaming influencers on their team. KSI, Manny and Toby to mention a few. Parklife published weekly on Slash and brought in huge audiences for the two 40 episode seasons it ran.
As the audiences grew we attracted brands and partnerships. Sega’s Football Manager came in to sponsor the team and we created a real life Football Manager series that picked up best brand partnership at the Digiday awards.
